An heirloom quality taper holder in solid brass with bobeche, measuring 5" high X 2 1/4" base, holds a thin 1/2" taper. This style was commonly found on early plantations. The brass is lacquered to keep it shining, the base is felted to protect fine finishes. Weight: 11 ounces.

could you remove the top ring so that a .75 inch candle would fit?

These candle holders are very, very small. They would not be able to accommodate anything larger than a 1/2" diameter thin taper candle.
