This lovely heirloom quality Bristol Chamberstick is more fashionable than most, it has a modified hobnail design running around the top outer edge of the pan and also on the flared outer edge at the top of the chamberstick socket. The handle is an improvement on the single finger hole found on most chambersticks since this one allowed the use of two fingers for added comfort.
Ships left British west coast ports like Liverpool and Bristol laden with goods for the Colonies. One popular export was a lovely chamberstick from Bristol that found its way into many public houses and homes. Nicer than most, this Bristol Chamberstick was a favorite in the "better" establishments.
Cast in solid brass it measures 3 " high and 4-7/8" in diameter with a 7/8" socket. The brass is lacquered to keep it shining, the base is felted to protect fine finishes. Weight: 11 ounces

Beautiful heavy nickel-plated brass Georgian Tankard. Measures 5 inches high by 3-1/2 inch in diameter and 6 inches across including the handle, weighs just over one pound. Capacity is a very comfortable pint to accomodate a nice head of "foam".
The foam on top of beer is called a head. It is caused by bubbles of carbon dioxide rising to the surface. The carbon dioxide may be produced naturally by the activity of the brewers yeast, or artificially by dissolving carbon dioxide under pressure into the liquid. The density and longevity of the head will be determined by the type of starch from which the beer was fermented. Wheat starch tends to produce larger and longer lasting heads than barley starch.
