1106 Plantation Candlestick

candle-holder1106X.jpg

An heirloom quality candlestick in solid brass with bobeche, measuring 8-1/2" high X 4" base. This 18th Century Candlestick was commonly found on early plantations. The brass is lacquered to keep it shining, the base is felted to protect fine finishes. Weight: 1 pound 8 ounces.

The Plymouth Plantation was the first English settlement in the New World. It was started to create a new beginning for English dissenters, freeing them to live their lives as they wished. Later plantations were more entrepreneurial: European investors funded colonists and expected good returns on their investments. Examples include the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the New Haven Colony, and the Dutch settlement of Niue Amsterdam, now New York.
