3120 Abigail Candlestick

Comissioned in memory of Abigail Adams, wife of the second president of the United States, this lovely candlestick will not be overlooked on your table or sideboard. The heirloom quality candlestick is solid brass, it measures 10-1/4" high, has a 4-1/4" base and weighs a hefty 1 pound 10 ounces. Beautiful displayed alone, or in a grouping. The brass is lacquered to keep it shining, the base is felted to protect fine finishes.
Abigail Smith Adams
She inheriting New England's strongest traditions and was born Abigail Smith in 1744 at Weymouth, Massachusetts. On her mother's side she was descended from the Quincys, a respected and prestigious family in the colony; her father and other forebearers were Congregational ministers.
Like other women of the time, Abigail lacked formal education; but had a keen intelligence, she was an avid reader. Reading created a bond between her and young John Adams, a Harvard graduate seeking a career in law. They were married in 1764. It was a marriage of the mind and of the heart, enduring for more than half a century.
John Adams was the second president of the United States, serving from 1797 to 1801.
