The Massachusetts General Court convened June 30, 1768 to respond to Secretary of State Hillsborough's order that they rescind their circular letter of February 11, 1768. The members of the General Court voted 92 to 17 not to rescind the letter. The fifteen Sons of Liberty commissioned Paul Revere to make a silver punch bowl called the Liberty Bowl to honor the “Glorious Ninety-Two” members of the Massachusetts General Court who voted not to rescind the letter of protest against the Townsend Act. Our Revere bowls remain true to this original Liberty Bowl. |
